IDMyKey

Coming soon to iPhone & Android

Know what every key opens.

IDMyKey fingerprints a key from two quick photos, one of each side. Tag it with the property, unit and lock it belongs to, then just point your camera at any key to see what it's for.

How it works

No barcodes, no stickers, no key tags to fall off. The key itself is the label.

Snap both sides

Lay the key flat and take a picture, then flip it over for a second. IDMyKey measures its cuts and blank shape to create a fingerprint unique to that key.

Tag what it opens

File it under your own structure, like property, building, unit and lock, or just "House" and "Shed". Add notes, copies and who has it.

Point and know

Hold any key up to the camera and IDMyKey tells you what it opens. Looking for one key? Scan the whole ring and it's highlighted for you.

Built for every key you're responsible for

Whether that's six keys on a hook or six hundred in a lockbox.

Identify by camera

Mystery key in a drawer? Hold it up. If it's in your collection, you'll see exactly what it opens.

Find this key

Pick a key from your list, point the camera at a ring or a pile, and IDMyKey highlights the one you need.

Your structure, your words

Properties, buildings, floors, units, rooms. Set up the levels that match how you actually think about your keys.

Master keys & copies

One key that opens twenty doors, or three copies of the same key. Both are handled naturally.

Who has it

Check keys out to a tenant, contractor or crew member and see what's due back. Built for teams.

Locked down

Face ID or fingerprint to open the app. Your key data is encrypted and stays on your phone by default.

Who it's for

Anyone who has ever stood at a door trying keys one by one.

Homeowners

House, garage, shed, mailbox, padlocks, and that one key nobody can explain.

Property managers

Every unit, every turnover, every master. Know which key is which across your whole portfolio.

Realtors

Listing keys come and go. Tag them on intake and never mix up two front doors again.

Custodians

Big rings, many buildings, many rooms. Find the right key on the first try.

Maintenance crews

Mechanical rooms, gates, panels and equipment. Hand off keys and know who has them.

Private by design

A photo of a key and an address together are sensitive. IDMyKey is being built around that from day one.

On your phone first

Fingerprints, photos and tags are stored on your device, encrypted, by default.

Backups only you can open

Back up your whole collection, or share chosen keys with someone, as an encrypted file locked with a code. We never see the file or the code. Team sync is planned with end-to-end encryption.

No tracking

No ads and no data brokers. This website doesn't even use cookies or analytics.

Questions

Which keys will it work with?

At launch: standard single-sided and double-sided keys, the kind used on house, apartment, office, padlock and cabinet locks. Car keys, dimple keys and high-security keys aren't supported in the first version.

Do I need special equipment?

No. Just your phone's camera. For the best fingerprint, you'll lay the key flat on a plain, contrasting surface when you first add it.

Is it safe to take photos of my keys?

It's a fair question, and the reason privacy is built into IDMyKey from the start. Your key data is kept on your phone, encrypted and behind Face ID or a fingerprint, unless you choose to sync it, and sync is planned to be end-to-end encrypted.

Can I move my keys to a new phone, or share some?

Yes. A backup saves all your keys, places and photos as one encrypted file, locked with a recovery code only you have. Restore it on any iPhone or Android phone. To share, pick keys or whole places and IDMyKey makes a file with its own code: send the file and the code separately, and the other person adds the keys to theirs. When restoring or adding keys, IDMyKey checks for keys you already have, so nothing is doubled up.

Can it get a key copied?

Not at launch. Connecting with secure key-cutting stations is planned for the future, with safeguards so only the key's owner can request a copy.

When can I try it?
